Established in 2007, Buy1Give1 (B1G1) is a Social Enterprise and non-profit organisation with a mission to create a world that is full of giving. Unlike conventional giving models, B1G1 helps companies to achieve more social impact by embedding giving activities into everyday business operations. Today, the B1G1 initiative is supported by more than 2,100 like-minded businesses from around the world – each one making significant impacts every day. Each business transaction can impact lives positively, no matter how small. Today there are 800 carefully screened, high-impact projects to choose to support, all in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as set by governments, businesses and civil society together with the United Nations. This year the organisation celebrated an incredible feat of achieving 100,000,000 giving impacts. B1G1’s ‘every small action can have big impact’ ethos is all the easier to understand when recognising that something as little as a solar panel-charged LED lamp can increase learning time by 30 minutes each day, thus helping a child to complete homework and improve their literacy. Rather worryingly, 800 million children in Africa alone lack access to reliable lighting. The results of the great causes that B1G1 has worked with are apparent in many different ways. In September 2017 one of the colleges, that Tribeca has donated to, saw 22 of their students graduate, with a further 129 due to graduate in May 2018. B1G1 also donated multiple eLearning facilities to tribal village schools. Meaning children living in the rural communities gain access to much better education. This prevents people in these villages from moving to cities (and becoming slum dwellers), because they can now experience a better quality life in their own community.
Tribeca joined the B1G1 community last year and has already made a positive difference across the world. As well as benefiting those that we give to, the enterprise also provides our employees with an added sense of purpose as they carry out their daily responsibilities. This pleases our clients, because their investment in Tribeca also allows them to do something good somewhere else in the world for someone that really needs help. Every month Tribeca holds a meeting with its staff, including them within the giving process and allowing them to choose specific projects that they feel strongly about donating to. Within its first year, Tribeca generated over 40,000 giving impacts.
