Why ESG and CSR Are Not Just For Christmas.

At Tribeca, CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) has always meant much more to us than a tick-box exercise.

Giving back, supporting our local community, and reducing the environmental impact of our business are all concepts embedded in our day-to-day operations.

What is CSR at Tribeca?

For many years, we have been involved in a variety of CSR and ESG (Environment, Social, and Governance) initiatives centred around our core values of education, integrity and caring.

We take an interest in wider social and sustainability issues, encouraging our team members to get involved in acting locally and globally.

Thinking Globally: International Charity Partnership.

Since 2016, Tribeca has partnered with B1G1 (Buy1GIVE1), a social enterprise and non-profit organisation which enables companies to make a bigger difference by incorporating charitable activities into everyday business.

In March, we hit a milestone of more than 1.7 million in charitable impacts via B1G1 and are now well on our way to hitting the 2 million mark.

As a member of B1G1, Tribeca is able to choose from more than 800 carefully screened projects to support, all of which are aligned with sustainable development goals set by the United Nations, which aim to positively impact the lives of people in some of the poorest places on earth.

Some initiatives provide opportunities for business training and development; some provide access to safe drinking water, food, and education, while others focus on environmental protection.

By working with us, our clients help to contribute to these worthwhile causes.

We hold a meeting every month with all staff members to decide which projects to donate to; and we donate on behalf of every new client that joins us as well as for any additional spend within our IT Procurement Team.

We aim to align our donations with our client’s values.

To date, we have:

  • Provided more than 7,500 days of computer education to children in need
  • Provided more than 18,000 learning tools for disadvantaged children in Kenya
  • Supported almost 1,000 days of business training to women in need in Malawi
  • Enabled 250,000 days of access to clean water to families in Ethiopia, and
  • Planted more than 300 trees to provide a habitat for orangutans and hornbills in Borneo.

These are only a selection of the projects we have supported.

We were especially proud to be recognised as a B1G1 ‘featured giver’, which meant Tribeca provided the greatest number of days of access to education over a 12 month period across around 3,000 companies that support B1G1.

Acting Locally: Education.

We are also passionate supporters of educational initiatives here in the UK. We partner with MidKent College and other local employers to ensure students enter the workforce with the skills that employers need.

We have sponsored the Kent Messenger Literacy Awards, a Kent-wide initiative to develop reading, writing, speaking and listening skills among children and teenagers.

And we are very proud of our Tribeca Academy, a dedicated space for our apprentices to receive their training together in an environment where we can replicate anything that may come their way on the job, so they are fully equipped for their future roles. Since 2011, we have trained 35 apprentices, of whom 16 are still with us today.

We recruit approximately five apprentices a year, most of whom come from our local community, for varied roles in areas such as Business Administration, Accounts, Sales, and Technical Services.

Supporting our local community.

While we pride ourselves on our 24/7 IT support from our offices in London, New York, and Hong Kong, the Tribeca Service Desk is based in our Kent office, situated in a rural village in North Kent.

We are part of our local community and understand that we have a responsibility to support local initiatives.

We have donated to our village church, enabling them to perform vital roof repairs, and sponsor a youth football team.

Our local community has also benefited through our sponsorship of employees’ individual efforts for local charities, such as charity runs, sky dives, and school events.

Through our London office, we donated £5,000 to The Felix Project, a food re-distribution charity in London, delivering nutritious food to the most vulnerable in society.

We have also supported the Thames River Boat Charity, which provides trips for disadvantaged children, by providing IT and financial support.

Our team members have donated time and resources to several children’s and parent’s charities, including:

Supporting the Environment.

Tribeca takes an holistic, multi-pronged approach to improving sustainability and reducing the environmental impact of our business.

We believe ESG needs to be enmeshed in business-as-usual to make a genuine impact.

Our environmental initiatives include:

1. Recycling all of our own and our clients’ redundant hardware, including PCs, screens, servers, and switches. Tribeca is on a journey towards Zero Waste to Landfill.

2. Maintaining an energy-efficient head office: we use an energy-efficient heating and cooling system and have fitted LED lights throughout. We have a ‘no single-use plastic’ policy as well as waste recycling.

There is an electric car charger for the team – Tribeca’s two company directors drive electric cars – and we encourage our team members to take public transport when possible if commuting to client offices.

We are in the process of installing solar panels to further reduce our carbon footprint.

Our other premises world-wide are based in serviced office buildings which have been specially constructed to be environmentally friendly and to align with our policies.

3. Using the greenest data centres possible: Our chosen data centre, one of the largest in the UK, has been recognised as the greenest data centre in Europe for a number of years and aims to be carbon neutral by 2030.

The centre is run on 100% renewable green energy, utilising environmentally efficient cooling systems to minimise the water and energy required to cool the data floors.

As a leading MSP to the alternative investment industry, we’re dedicated to continuing to instigate fresh ideas that make a difference in our local and international communities.
